0 English language learners: Tips on Learning English

Learning English can be a very enjoyable experience if you want it to be. There are many techniques and methods for studying the language but there is so much more that goes into learning any language than just class time and homework. This article will act as your guide for practical tips on learning English.

So, the first thing you need to remember is it is o.k. to makes mistakes when you are learning English. When you are learning the language no one expects you to be perfect. Of course you want to learn from your mistakes and try your best not to repeat them. However, the fear of making a mistake should never hold you back from practicing your writing and reading. When it comes down to it even native speakers make mistakes from time to time, and you can bet that is not stopping them from communicating in English. Just give yourself a break, because the only way for you to improve your English is to practice.

This brings up the next point. How much English are you speaking, reading, and writing on a daily basis? You need to be an English language machine. You need to practice the language as much as you can on a daily ongoing basis. Do you live with people who are also learning English? That is great because you can speak English with them all day. If you are not in a situation that would permit that scenario you do not need to worry because there are plenty of opportunities throughout the day that will allow you to use your English if you are in an English speaking country. Everywhere you go throughout the day there are people that you can converse with in English. Think of all the places you go throughout the day. There are people at stores, banks, gas stations etc. You name it; there is somewhere there that you can speak with in English. You need to make the opportunity for conversation happen for yourself. Just go up to these people and ask them a question or even introduce yourself to them. Sometimes you need to step outside of your comfort level to improve. Otherwise you will stay at the same level of proficiency where you currently are. That just will not work because you have too much to communicate to stay there.

Apart from speaking, you need to do some reading in English everyday as well. Go to the library and take out some books that are at your current reading level. The librarians will be pleased to help you find the material you need. Even if they are children's book there is no need to be embarrassed. You are learning right now and eventually you will work your way up to more challenging material. Your job right now is to master the reading level you are on right now. So, make it a priority to go to the library and check some books. Some other ideas include reading the newspaper or reading articles on the internet. The great thing about the newspaper, besides all of the important need to know information, is the comic section because the material is easy to comprehend and you will learn idiomatic expressions. You will also have the added benefit of learning some jokes in English which is great for when you are speaking English.

Now, when it comes to practicing your writing in English, there are also many opportunities. You can write a letter to a friend, write out your grocery list, or start a journal. Anytime you write something during the day, try to write it in English.
What about listening to music in English, or watching TV in English? You can also watch movies in English. The point is that you need to incorporate as much of the English language into your day as possible in order to improve.
